It’s summer. It’s easy to be distracted. I’m leaving on 2 back to back trips. The first is both business and pleasure. The 2nd is all pleasure. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time to visit the land of my ancestors, so I’m taking off for Eastern Europe for 3 weeks. When I return, summer will be retreating and fall colors won’t be far behind. What have I accomplished this summer? Not much! I’ve been thinking alot, though, about creativity and how to help my clients embrace it as a strategy for growth. That naturally leads to how well they lead. How well do they engage their employees? Who among them is primed for new thinking that will get them moving in an upward trajectory towards 2018? I’ve created a new program which provides business owners the tools and techniques they can use to get the best out of their people. And, I started writing my book, potentially named Gearshift. I’m becoming more and more verbal about why creativity is so important and how it has impacted my life. What follows is an exercise I created so that when I return from abroad, I can start running. If I am to help you, I must be brutally honest with myself. It does none of us any good to pretend. To act as though we are one way, when deep in our hearts we know we are another. That’s why I’m asking you to answer these questions.

1.  Name 3 people you admire most.

_____________________________. _______________________________. ___________________________.

2.  What Leadership traits do this people possess?

_____________________________. _______________________________. ___________________________.

3. Now, take a hard look at yourself. What are your strongest leadership traits. What 3 adjectives describe you?

_____________________________. _______________________________. ___________________________.

4. What are your weakest leadership traits? Be honest. We don’t all excel in all areas.

_____________________________. _______________________________. ___________________________.

5. Create a snapshot of how you’d like your company to look in 12 months.

Sales: $________________________. People: __________________________. Products: ____________________.

6. Describe your role in 12 months? Is it the same?  How is it different?

_________________________________________________________________________________________.

_________________________________________________________________________________________.

7. What is your single biggest obstacle to phenomenal growth?

_________________________________________________________________________________________.

8. If this obstacle was removed, where could you be 12 months from now?

Write out 5 steps you can start taking right now to get there:

__________________________________________________________________________________________.

__________________________________________________________________________________________.

__________________________________________________________________________________________.

__________________________________________________________________________________________.

__________________________________________________________________________________________.

9. BONUS:

Name 3 building blocks you can put in place to insure the success of your company:

_________________________________________________________________________________________.

_________________________________________________________________________________________.

_________________________________________________________________________________________.

NOW – HOW ARE YOU GOING TO GET IT DONE?

If you continue to do exactly what you have been doing, you will continue to get exactly what you have been getting!

Isn’t it time you danced to a different tune?????

And, isn’t it time you hired a coach?  Perhaps you already have one. Does your coach truly understand all you are dealing with? Once you identify the steps you can take to get where it is you want to go and the building blocks you can put in place to insure the success of your company, think hard and long about who you need on your team. Can understanding what it means to apply creativity lead you to breakthrough thinking? It’s tough out there. Let’s work together and together and we’ll weather every storm that gets in our way.

One last question. If you have ever thought of sitting around a table with like-minded people to solve your challenges, call me. I’m seriously thinking of starting a roundtable just for that purpose. Anyone willing to volunteer their office to hold the meetings?

Until the next time,

Gail
